West Point Historic Pictures
HSWP has thousands of pictures of old West Point and past historical events. We now have a great way to view these pictures. Thanks to a generous donation, we now have a large screen TV upstairs. You can view the many photos we have or visit our You Tube channel and see interviews with past (and present) residents of West Point.
Historic Markers
We will continue to install historic markers around our town like this one soon to be installed at the site of the former O’Connor Hotel at 5th and Kirby. This is the seventh marker that has been installed and we hope to add 4-5 more this year. Be sure to take a look at history on our streets.
Newest Member of HSWP Board of Directors
We are excited and proud to welcome Katie Gibson as the newest member of HSWP Board of Directors. Katie has worked with us for many years starting when she was in high school. She just received her masters degree from Virginia Tech and will be a valuable asset to our group. Welcome Katie!
New Exhibits
We are in the process of organizing and learning more about our native American artifacts including those from the Brabrand and Courtney collections (pictured above). Coming soon will be a new display on native Americans who played a big part in early West Point history. We have also refreshed several other exhibits at the museum.
Memorial Bricks, Calendars, etc.
We will soon be placing another order for engraved bricks for our memorial walkway. If you want to honor or remember someone with a brick contact us for an order form. While you are at it, pick up a 2023 calendar with great pictures of old West Point. We have a few left. 2023 calendars are $10 and we still have a few 2022 calendars that are free with any donation.
Chamber Gala
If you are going to the Chamber Gala on July 29th at Historic Chelsea, please be sure to stop and say hello to folks from the Historical Society. Transition in time with us to the days of the Terminal Hotel and one of the highlights of this event.
History Tidbit
The West Point chamber has always been active. Here is an ad from 1920 comparing the potential port at West Point to the very successful port at Los Angeles. Could WP have been another LA?
Museum Visits
Please be sure to stop by the museum and see all of the exciting new items. Also, with all of the things that are happening and upcoming, we sure could use your membership and your financial help. Thank you in advance for your support as we continue to share the West Point story.
