Hurricane Isabel blew through West Point on September 18, 2003. Flood waters reached 8'-6" above mean low water - that's 6" above the 8'-0" 100-year flood plane elevation. Sustained winds in excess of 80 miles per hour also came with the storm. Significant flood damage was realized at numerous homes in the downtown area as well as damage from winds throughout town. Some homes were entirely destroyed.
