This book discusses in depth the education of the African Americans and the 15 "colored" schools that were in the county from 1865 through about 1950 and up until 1970, when the county was fully integrated. These schools include the Freedmen Bureau Schools and Rosenwald Schools. It also discusses the Supreme Court decision of Greene vs. New Kent Board of Education.
